The AMI Model C is a popular jukebox that was produced by Automatic Musical Instruments (AMI) in 1949-1950. It has a futuristic, space-age design with a curved plastic front panel and colorful lighting effects. It can hold up to 20 78-rpm records, which are selected by pushing a button on the front panel.
These shipped playing 78 rpm records but a popular modification is to convert to 45 rpm records. A 45 adapted machine is easily identifiable by the blue adapter rings and larger turntable capstan on the turntable platter. Starting with this model kits were offered for operator conversion, some rumer they could have been ordered installed.
The Model C features colorful lighting effects that change when a record starts playing. IT also has color changing cylinders in the lower pilasters of the machine.
Designed to be used in public places, the Model C features a coin mechanism that accepts nickels, dimes, and quarters. When a coin is inserted, the selected song is played and the machine lights up to indicate the selection. The Model C can also be equipped with a remote control that allows you to select songs from a distance.
