The Wurlitzer 1500, 1550, 1500A, 1550A, 1600 and 1650 jukeboxes were produced by the Wurlitzer Company in 1952 through 1954. They feature a new mechanism that plays 104 selections off 52 records.
The new Sensational WurliMagic Brain allowed for intermixed 78’s, 45’s and 33 rpm records. Only the 1650 played only 45’s the other models supported them all.
Designed to be used in public places, the Wurlitzer 1500, 1550, 1500A, 1550A, 1600 and 1650 jukeboxes feature a coin mechanism that accepts nickels, dimes or quarters, allowing users to pay for their song selection. They have an electromagnetic mechanism for song selection. It allows users to make their song choice by using a button or push-button selector system.
Overall, the Wurlitzer 1500, 1550, 1500A, 1550A, 1600 and 1650 jukeboxes were not popular with operators during their time. The 1500-1550 being som eof the heaviest and the mechanism being hard to work on and keep adjusted to operate properly. This is not a jukebox recommended to start repair on as its one of the more complex mechs to repair.
