The AMI Pre-War model jukeboxes refer to the jukeboxes produced by Automatic Musical Instruments (AMI) before World War II, which lasted from 1939 to 1945. These models are typically designed with art deco style elements, such as chrome accents, curved lines and bold colors. They can hold up to 20 or 40 selections, depending on the model. The Pre-War models are generally harder to find and sought after by collectors.
Most pre war AMi models are 20 selections but the double singing towers plays 40 selections. AMI was known best for its mechanism as one of the first to play both sides of a record.
AMI also produced the automatic hostess system that music was played remotely via a disc jockey on paid request.
The Pre-war models have a coin mechanism that accepts nickels and dimes. These jukeboxes also have a holder for the record strips that displayed the name of the song and artist for each selection.
Overall, the AMI Pre-War model jukeboxes with their unique design and classic styling continue to make them popular among collectors today.
